Resilience and Dynamic Adjustments in Agroecosystems

چکیده
The paper presents an investigation of agroecosystem dynamics with an application to yield data from England over the period 1885-2012. The analysis relies on a Threshold Quantile Autoregressive (TQAR) model. The model allows for lag effects to vary across quantiles of the distribution as well as with the values taken by the lagged variables. While it includes as special case the quantile autoregressive (QAR) model, the model specification provides a flexible representation of dynamics and asymmetric adjustments. Applied to wheat yield, the analysis documents the dynamics and persistence of yield adjustments to shocks. It finds statistical evidence against QAR models. The estimates indicate the presence of instability in the lower quantile of the distribution. This is consistent with presence of resilience in wheat yield.

An Indicator Framework for Assessing Agroecosystem Resilience
Taking departure in the theory of resilience in social-ecological systems, we present an analysis and discussion of how resilience theory can be applied to agroecosystems. Building on the premise that agroecosystems are too complex for resilience to be measured in any precise manner, we delineate behavior-based indicators of resilience within agroecosystems. Based on a review of relevant litera...
متن کاملAgroecosystem Analysis of the Choke Mountain Watersheds, Ethiopia
Tropical highland regions are experiencing rapid climate change. In these regions the adaptation challenge is complicated by the fact that elevation contrasts and dissected topography produce diverse climatic conditions that are often accompanied by significant ecological and agricultural diversity within a relatively small region. Such is the case for the Choke Mountain watersheds, in the Blue...
متن کاملResponses of Agroecosystems to Climate Change: Specifics of Resilience in the Mid-Latitude Region
This study examines the productivity and resilience of agroecosystems in the Korean Peninsula. Having learned valuable lessons from a Chapman University project funded by the United States Department of Agriculture which concentrated on the semi-arid region of southwestern United States, our joint Korea—Chapman University team has applied similar methodologies to the Korean Peninsula, which is ...
متن کاملInvestigating the Relationship between Nurses' psychological Health with Resilience and patient's Pain Tolerance in Surgical Wards
Background and Aim: Psychological health is a condition that a person understands his/her abilities and can handle work pressures and increase own productivity. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between nurseschr('39') psychological health with resilience and pain tolerance. Methods: This is a descriptive-correlational study which conducted in 2020. The statistical p...
متن کاملAssessing Resilience of Scheduled Performance- Based Navigation Arrival Operations
This paper assesses the resilience of scheduled Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) arrival operations. Resilience is defined as an ability to return to nominal operations following a schedule perturbation. Results from a Human-in-theLoop (HITL) experiment that included off-nominal events to perturb the schedule are described. The schedule comes from a precision trajectory-based arrival manager....
